Investing in an
existing high-tech business:
Generally, high technology
and "knowledge-based" businesses are acknowledged as having
high growth potential but are considered by many to be unduly risky.
This perception results from a combination of real experience
and basic misunderstanding.
It is our experience that for
every bad company run by "techies with no business acumen" there are
at least as many high tech businesses that are well-founded and
operate more efficiently than corresponding "normal"
businesses. We have decades of experience working with such
businesses and are able to "speak and translate" their language.
We can aid potential investors by
critically analysing the business and its technology base. This
cannot remove all of the associated risk but will reduce it
substantially.
Investing in
high-tech start-ups:
The best time to invest in a high
growth-potential business is obviously at or near the
beginning, this can maximise the return on investment , but is seen
to be incredibly risky. The problem with high technology based
start-ups is that not only do they have all of the normal issues
(unproven market, sale process, supply process etc), they often have
unproven or undeveloped technology.
We provide an independent assessment
of the status of the technological development and the whether the
business has the appropriate structure, personnel and approach to
maximise the chances of success.
