Assistance with Product Development: Often, during the course
of product or process reviews, it becomes apparent that the Client does not have access to the
appropriate skills or resources to address some identified aspect of the product development. In
many cases we have be able to provide practical assistance, assembling revised prototypes which
include the necessary modifications to ensure compliance with the appropriate
regualtions.
Armed with the
prototype and a detailed report concerning the cahnges, the manufacturer can easily replicate
the required changes on their production units. In a small number of cases we have even carried
out very small scale initial production to meet client demanding schedules.

New products, new problems: A
business
had been formed to develop, market and manufacture a novel version of a well-established
product. The company had grown rapidly during this initial phase to the stage where is
employed around 30 people. Following the demonstration of working prototypes, there was a lot
of interest in the marketplace and production began to gear-up following the official
launch.
We were brought in to
assist with one aspect of the introduction process. We spent some time with the company trying
to determine the exact needs, following a number of discussions with various individuals it was
apparent that there was a problem. Following discussions with the senior management it was
agreed that we should undertake a brief technical audit on the product release status. A formal
audit was carried out which took less than 5 days, the result was a real shock to the management
and a majority of the people involved. The bottom line was that the product had to undergo
further basic development, extensive engineering and a substantial effort was required to bring
the product information up to scratch. Overall the launch was delayed by 4 months. Had the
review not taken place the resulting problems in production, and support would have cost the
company of cash and resources, at worst it may well have stopped the company gaining a foothold
in this competitive market. The business subsequently adopted a formal review process for all
development projects and continues to improve its internal processes.

Communication issues: It is not uncommon for
communication issues to result in problems with new product launches. Often the various parties
involved are all trying their best but they just don't speak the same language. We have the
appropriate background to remove these obstacles. Click here
to see a light-hearted example, but one
that is based on a real situation!
